Through the envelope data analysis (DEA) technique, composed offiveinputs and three outputs, which help to determine the decision-making units (DMUs) that are in the bestpractice border, being able to know the factors relevant and how they have been managed in the differentincubators.Findings–One of the three years observed was identified as the most efficient, with 13 start-ups atthe most efficient border. The projection shows some entries that must be modified to maximize thecreation of new incubated business with a focus on survival and growth. The authors propose theresources that must be modified to adopt efficient management practices for incubators and start-upssmall size.Research limitations/implications–This analysis recognizes the size and restriction of resources as adeterminant in the efficiency of intermediate technology business incubators. However, an obvious limitationis the non-standardized sample of 25 incubators does not allow generalizing the results.Practical implications–The special support received by start-ups linked to a university with strongfinancial and non-financial support.Originality/value–Dual management (incubator and incubated start-ups) approach to efficiency analysisand the use of the DEA for the incubation topic and tofill a gap persists in the understanding of creation ofnew business in intermediate technology.Universidade de São Paulo2020info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/articleapplication/pdf2531-0488https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=553865135006https://www.redalyc.org/journal/5538/553865135006/https://www.redalyc.org/journal/5538/553865135006/html/https://www.redalyc.org/journal/5538/553865135006/553865135006.epubhttps://www.redalyc.org/journal/5538/553865135006/movilRAUSP Management Journal (Brasil) Num.4 Vol.55reponame:Redalyc-UATinstname:Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipasinstacron:UATenhttp://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=5538RAUSP Management Journalinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessoai:redalyc.org:5538651350062024-08-23T15:48:27Z |
