Descripción
Sumario:In this study we try to define what the god Cipak represented for the Huastecs and the important part he had in their lives. We will analyze as well the penetration of Quetzalcoatl at various archaeological sites in the Huasteca region during the Postclassic period. In this period Quetzalcoatl was represented as an anthropomorphic deity as was Cipak, both of whom were civilization bringers. This similarity explains the adoption of Quetzalcoatl as a Huastec deity and his fusion with the god Cipak. The excavations of Vista Hermosa archaeological site (Tamaulipas, Late Postclassic) is an example of this phenomenon. We can say that here comes into being a Huastec Quetzalcoatl who even became the “Patron” of this village.
