| Sumario: | In order to reflect on the features of recent devaluation processes in Mexico, including that of 1994, the article posits various hypotheses on the relation between devaluations and the structural crisis, external debt, neo-liberal adjustment programs, the current account deficit and alternative possibilities to meeting the debt: a moratorium or debtors ‘club. The author concludes by pointing out the main problems resulting from this, such as social costs and greater external debt. |
