In the following lines we will analyze the spirit and objective of these measures, the actions undertaken by the bishops of Veracruz, in the indicated period, in order to recover part of those expropriated assets and resources and some of the cases that could be analyzed, temporarily located in the era of the restored republic and the Porfiriato.El presente texto da cuenta de los resultados de investigación sobre una temática escasamente abordada en la historiografía sobre las relaciones de Iglesia y el Estado mexicano en el siglo XIX: las acciones de la jerarquía católica para contrarrestar los efectos de la pérdida de bienes materiales a causa de las leyes reformistas promovidas por los gobiernos liberales a partir del triunfo la revolución de Ayutla en 1855.
