Sumario:This article presents a qualitative research project, carried out with advanced English students and teachers at CELE-UNAM, on their perceptions of intercultural communicative competence and its role inside and outside class as well. Byram´s model on intercultural communicative competence (1997) is used to analyze if its different components are present or not in English courses at CELE. Students´ and teachers´ awareness of the role of these components inside and outside the classroom is also explored. Some pedagogical implications are included in the final section.
