| Sumario: | The historical transformations of the rural space have profoundly modified the functions of the brick localities located on the zone peri urban of Puebla, Mexico. The objective of the study was to analyze the development of the brick industry and the sociodemographic and economical characteristics of the brick-making family of San Pedro Cholula, in Puebla. A cross-sectional study was carried out through statistical sampling with a semi-structured questionnaire and a sample of 73 brick producers. The results show that the brick industry is important for the family economy due to the use of a greater amount of family labor, the demand from the construction sector, the little available land and the low profitability of agricultural activity. The contribution of the study was to address the labor diversity that breaks with the idea of rural areas linked exclusively to agriculture, through multiple activities. |
