| Sumario: | The “Comarca Lagunera”, including Gomez Palacio, Lerdo and Torreón Cities is located in the northern portion of Mexico. The construction of lake “Lázaro Cárdenas” and “Fco. Zarco “has resulted in irreparable damage to the ecosystem, increasing evaporation decreasing recharge at aquifers. There are problems of soil salinization due to over-exploitation of groundwater, andarsenic has been detected in them, which has been linked to the agricultural industry by improper handling of pesticides and fertilizers. This is triggered by the change in the irrigation system “enlagunamiento” and cultural practices of major crops. Cotton products allowed the emergence of the textile industry, oil, soap and important products for livestock feed. However with the fall of cotton was replaced by that of fodder to satisfy the demand for livestock feed, being a cause that exacerbates environmental degradation, particularly water resources, the overexploitation of aquifers and result in stretching further desertification. It is recommended to solve environmental issues through participation in conservation programs and consolidate the suburbs committed to the protection of the ecosystem. |
