Descripción
Sumario:The aim of this paper is to examine the relationship between causal attributions of poverty with participation and sense of community. Previously, the influence of socio-demographic and socio-economic variables on these types of attributions were considered and some effects were found according to gender, age and educational level. The study sample consisted of 720 participants and the results indicate that cultural explanations of poverty have a direct effect on sense of community. However, the data suggests that the relationship between attributions of (structural) poverty and sense of community is mediated by community participation and has effects on community development. This is relevant for the design of awareness-raising, intervention and cooperation programs in developing countries.
