Descripción
Sumario:The purpose of this research is to characterize the wixárica ethnic group and how the community and its artisanal production affect the local economic development of the city of Tepic. The study is approached from an economic, sociocultural and administrative political perspective, taking as a case study three artisan leaders of the community. The ethnographic approach is necessary for the purpose of research, using a qualitative methodology; conducting semi-structured and in-depth interviews, as well as the observation technique for data collection. The results showed that the subjects that formed the case studies in the city of Tepic and who are engaged in artisan activity respond to basic livelihoods. It was also found that access to support programs created to boost this activity and that were considered in the present investigation is limited and with limited dissemination; what limits the commercialization due to the disadvantage for investment capacity. It is concluded that regarding the cases of wixárica artisans, the incidence of artisanal work they do in the local economic development of the city of Tepic is little or nothing and that through this activity the subjects of study have not improved their living standards.
