Sumario:A brief review of EEJ discovery, and the importance of South America on EEl research are presented. Some solved and unsolved questions about EEJ and CEl are discussed based on description of possible EEl peculiarities in South America.Observational work in Brazil is summarized and an abridged version of EEJ research programs in Brazil and Peru is related. The possibility of a cooperative Latin-American program on EEl effects during the next Total Solar Eclipse of July, 11, 1991 is outlined.
