| Sumario: | When speaking on the environment it is common to consider only theexternal nature. However, all the discussion on the modern environ-mental crisis, and a more healthful environment for human develop-ment consideres human society as a part of the environment. The con-cept of sustainable development was born including not only ecological,but also social and economical sustainability. In the paper it is inten-ded to analyze the way social sustainability has been used in the sustai-nable development discourse. It is concluded that although there hasbeen an advance on social sustainability in development policies aswell as in academic discussion, there are certain limits to its feasibilitywhich are imposed by the capitalist system |
