Sumario:On the first chapter the author present a few considerations about the study of the colonial ranch, this investigations are actually valid in the present because this is the most significant rural institution of the XVII-XIX centuries. After that the author refers to the zone of Morelos and the sugar industry settled in there, and then she start a monographic study in the chapter three about San Carlos Borromeo, from the origins till his decay. The next two chapters are about the problematic of debts in the ranch. The last part is dedicated to present final reflections and a series of questions about the relations of the ranch with other sectors of economy.
