Sumario:The presence of chronic diseases in adulthood triggers a series of conditions. These diseases originate from metabolic alterations linked to various factors. One of them is obesity at an early age, especially the abdominal fat distribution. Various analyses support the use of anthropometric measures due to their practicality and usefulness, among these measures the waist circumference reflects an increased risk of metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular diseases. However, there is a divergence between the cut-off values for waist circumference in studies conducted on children and adolescents. Thus, we analysed papers on cut-off values for waist circumference to guide and promote this kind of measure. We conclude that each author has proposed a different percentile distribution and cut-off values to identify people at risk. According to the studies we analysed, this paper contains a table that summarizes the values for waist circumference and its importance to prevent chronic diseases.
