Descripción
Sumario:The integration of technology into health systems has benefits in the hospital services and therefore in patients, who have better diagnostics, better access to health services and costs reduction. Hospital telemonitoring is one of the services that have happened (came up) thanks to the developments in wireless technologies, allowing a knowledge of the patient's status at any times even when the patient is moving (to do some therapy, to get some study, etc.). In this context, research efforts have been concentrated on the WBAN/WPAN networks due to their low power consumption and data rates that these technologies offer. However, still much to improve, such as the handover mechanisms (when the architecture of the network contemplates mobility), which can be specified according to the requirements of the application. This work focuses on an analysis of the most relevant factors that are involved in the handover between sinks, following the IEEE 802.15.4 standard into a telemonitoring scenario. In order to do this, a statistical analysis was made based on a validated simulation model through an analytical model. A traffic profile was defined in a hospital telemonitoring scenario including physiological variables such as: temperature, oximetry, ECG, motion detection, etc. The results showed that the handover delay is affected by the ping-pong effect caused by unnecessary handovers, while packet loss is mainly related to failed handover and the channel contention.
