Sumario:Due to the increasing interest in the synthesis of different structures at nanometric scale, porous anodic aluminas are an emerging alternative to the sophisticated and expensive methods used currently. In this work, we present a brief review on some recent experimental results to synthesize porous anodic aluminas with extra large pore diameters (>200 nm), using mixtures of acids as electrolytes and high anodizing voltages. Additionally, we present studies related to thermal stability of porous anodic aluminas; these anodic aluminas are formed under standard conditions, using the most common electrolytes (sulfuric, oxalic and phosphoric acids). These studies have shown that anodic aluminas, initially amorphous, must transition through an elimination process of anions prior to the transformation to polycrystalline phasesuntil them, finally achieve the most stable phase, α-alumina. Finally, we mention some of the mostprominent applications these porous-anodic-alumina-nanostructures, obtained by non conventional and heat treatment methods, might have.
