In the substrate covered by vegetation, only the brown shrimp (2%) was present in addition to pink shrimp. Estimated penaeid shrimp density through the first sample ranged from 1.2 and 1.3 org. rn–2 in Palizada Vieja to 1.8 org. rn–2 at Pájaros Island. The efficiency of the beam trawl net was estimated at 28% in naked substrate when trawlings were done countercurrent. Net efficiency decreased to 17% when trawlings were done along the water flow. Net efficiency on vegetated substrates was estimated at 15%. Size composition of the first tow was significantly different (Χ2, P = 0.05) from the total size distribution of penaeids present in the area enclosed in both substrates, although mean sizes were similar. However, the size distribution obtained with two replicates did not show significant differences in both substrates at the same probability level.Se estima la eficiencia de una red de una red de barra tipo Renfro para el muestreo de postlarvas y juveniles de camarones peneidos sobre sustratos desnudos y cubiertos de vegetación, en localidades de la laguna de Términos, México. La captura de organismos peneidos en la localidad de Palizada Vieja, con sustrato desnudo, estuvo constituida por 87% de 13% camarón blanco, Penaeus setiferus, y 13% de camarón café, Penaeus aztecus, mientras que en localidad de isla Pájaros, con fondo cubierto de vegetación (Thalassia testudinum), predominó el camarón rosado, Penaeus duorarum (98%), sobre el camarón café (2%). La densidad estimada en el primer lance sobre sustrato desnudo varió entre 1.2 y 1.3 org. m–2 y sobre sustrato cubierto de vegetación fue 1.8 org. m–2. La efectividad de la red estimada en el sustrato desnudo fue de 28% en lances efectuados en contra de la corriente y disminuyó a 17% en los lances a favor de la corriente. En sustratos cubiertos de vegetación la eficiencia de la red fue de 15%. La estructura de tallas obtenidas con el primer lance es diferente de la estructura de la población en el área cercada en ambos tipos de sustrato (Χ2, P = 0.05).
