Resumo:Echinocactus grusonii is an endemic cactus of Mexico, however, it is at risk due to the collection and commercialization of its ornamental value. A protocol was stablished to induce callogenesis in vitro from mamillas of juvenile specimens of Echinocactus grusonii Hildm. The desinfectant NaClO agent was evaluated at different concentrations and combinations with Tween 80, as well as, different concentrations of growth regulators (IAA and BAP) in 50% MS medium were evaluated. The contamination percentage, the total number of calluses per explant, the rate of calluses, and the average number of roots per explant were recorded. The disinfection treatments did not present significant differences, the treatment of 1 mg/L BA + 4 mg/L IAA allows obtaining a more substantial number and percentage of calluses (3.2 and 64%, respectively). These results are essential for propagating ornamental cacti to reduce their illegal consumption
