| Sumario: | The article provides a chronological account of the main events in the state of Chiapas in 1994; it constitutes a political analysis showing that the social movement in the countryside has achieved significant gains, but should not only be regarded as a political element for obtaining curules, support or solutions to immediate demands. The author concludes that it is essential for the movement to be strengthened with proposals for social development which have a greater impact on indigenous communities and greater significance over time. |
