| Resumo: | Urban music plays a central role in the socialization and identity construction of young people. This study analyzes the perceptions of twelfth-grade students in a district in northern Dominican Republic regarding the lyrics of this musical genre. Using a quantitative approach, a survey was conducted with 1,088 students, exploring their affinity, evaluation of lyrical content, and perceived impact. The results reveal a widespread preference for reggaetón and dembow, along with differentiated perceptions based on age and gender. Female students tend to express more critical views toward content involving violence and sexualization, while older students report stronger emotional identification with the lyrics. Differentiated trajectories were also identified according to sociodemographic variables. The study highlights the diversity of youth interpretations and the need for media literacy strategies with an intersectional approach. Future research is proposed on digital culture, youth subjectivity, and critical education. |
