| Sumario: | This paper highlights the importance of the electronics industry located in the metropolitan area of Guadalajara (ZMG), since its presence in the area has earned it the name "Mexican or Southern Silicon Valley"; it also emphasizes the preference in this type of industry to hire female labor. I explain how the productive restructuring applied by this industry since the mid-1980s has impacted this workforce, and the precarious working conditions they face. Furthermore, in describing the crisis in the electronics industry since September 2001, which led to the dismantling of important plants in the Mexican or Southern Silicon Valley, we observe certain recovery trends and uncertainty for the working class. |
