Sumario:The capture and storage of carbon dioxide (CO2) in phytoplankton is emerging as a natural and effective alternative to combat climate change. This microorganism absorbs CO2 from the air through photosynthesis, making it a valuable tool in mitigating climate change. Current research seeks to validate phytoplankton as an effective option for CO2 capture and studies how environmental conditions impact its capture capacity. Likewise, technologies are being developed to grow phytoplankton on a large scale and use it as a renewable energy source. Although in an initial stage, this technique shows promising results in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Phytoplankton can capture significant amounts of CO2, transforming it into biomass and reducing its presence in the atmosphere. Furthermore, its use as a renewable energy source is postulated as a clean and sustainable alternative to fossil fuels.
