Descripción
Sumario:The main objective of this study is to show how the culturization process of the pames during the colonial period involved the area of superstition and belief, which is exemplified through the analysis of an accusation of witchcraft in the town of Valle del Maíz, located in the jurisdiction of Villa de Santiago de los Valles. This was a large jurisdiction that during the colonial period occupied the eastern part of what today is the state of San Luis Potosí and a chunk of the far northeast of Querétaro, and where the pames lived in the various franciscan missions. The interest in this case comes from observing the use of the concept of witchcraft among the pames to punish a mulatta woman who breached the social and moral norms of life in the missions and the Spanish towns.
