| Sumario: | Alvaradoa amorphoides belongs to Picramniaceae, previously placed in Simaroubaceae Family. This specie is very common in healthy and disturbed dry forests. It is very well distributed from South to Center of Mexico; although it is notable to be found at States of Chihuahua and Sinaloa. The present study deals with features as phenology, anatomy, hydraulic, architecture and the foliar movement of leaves of A. amorphoides grown in Valle de Vázquez, Tlaquiltengo, State of Morelos. Annual phenology of A. amorphoides grown in Valle de Vázquez was associated to precipitation values in the site of study. This feature was compared in other latitudes where this species has been reported from Center and South America. Results suggest that it is as plastic as necessary to adapt its phenology in response to wáter stress. Morphological and anatomical features associated to minimize wáter loss are; composite leaves, type of foliar architecture (i.e. festooned brochidodromous); budded-epidermal common cells, sunken stomata and foliar pubescent surfaces. Records of hydraulic parameters for specimens of this specie exposed under sun and under shadow for a year, suggest that wáter-underground sources are available perhaps to the runoff waters from Sierras Nevada and Guerrerense. However foliar folding is inevitable since it is a response to a very drought hábitat. This strategy reduces dramatically the wáter loss through leaves which represents the water status of this plant. Reflexions on functional strategies represented by morphological, anatomical, hydraulic and phenological features were done to understand the frequent presence of populations of this specie in disturbed hábitats. The latest means that it can be considered to be used as Pioneer specie in communities where temperatura is very high and water content in soil is less tan available. |
