Descripción
Sumario:Consolidating a sustainable model involves integrating economic, social, and environmental factors contributing to the population’s well-being. This type of model reflects a commitment to implementing strategies by all stakeholders in the economic segments of the global cocoa-chocolate value chain in a coordinated manner. This research aimed to identify scientific literature on the circular economy to discover strategies that help reduce the global negative externalities associated with this chain: child labor, deforestation, climate change, and poverty. The research was conducted in four stages: identification, filtering, visualization, and analysis using network maps generated with VOSviewer and Bibliometrix software. During the analysis stage, we identified the available strategies that contribute to developing a sustainable model for the cocoa-chocolate chain. Among the most notable ones, we found: a) carbon sequestration by plant species integrated into the cacao agroforestry system to mitigate the effects of deforestation and climate change; b) vegetative cover to capture nitrogen and sequester carbon; c) complementary bio-fertilizers for cocoa cultivation; and d) waste management. All of these strategies contribute to increasing the income of cocoa farmers and improving the economic, environmental, and social sustainability of the core components of the cocoa-chocolate chain.
