The results show an adsorption capacity of the resin of 7.5 mg Fe/g and 4.0 mg Mn/g with a removal of 70 and 25 %, respectively for sample J1, with a contact time of 12 h. For sample M1 it was obtained 12.5 mg Fe/g and 2.96 mg Mn/g, with a removal of 58 and 20 % for each metal with a contact time of 5 h. Results of FTIR analysis show modifications in the functional groups bonded to the resin due to adsorption of metals. These results indicate that the use of resin Dowex M-4195 can be an alternative to conventional treatments for the recovery or removal of heavy metals from aqueous solutions.El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar la capacidad de la resina quelante Dowex M-4195 para la remoción de hierro y manganeso, a partir de soluciones de dos fuentes: una proveniente de la infiltración de una presa de jales en desuso (J1) y otra de agua residual del proceso de recuperación de cobre (M1). Se aplicó el modelo de Langmuir para determinar la capacidad de adsorción de la resina. El análisis de los resultados muestra una capacidad de adsorción de 7.5 mg Fe/g de resina y 4.0 mg Mn/g, con remoción de 70 y 25 %, respectivamente para la muestra J1 en un tiempo de contacto de 12 h. Para la muestra M1 fue de 12.5 mg Fe/g y de 2.96 mg Mn/g, con remoción del 58 y 20% para cada metal, en un tiempo de contacto de 5 h. Los resultados del análisis de espectroscopía de infrarrojo de transformada de Fourier (FTIR) muestran las modificaciones en los enlaces del grupo funcional de la resina debido a la adsorción de los metales.
