Sumario:The objective of this investigation was to develop the functional analysis of the initial drug use of an adolescent, with the purpose of proposing a future intervention program. With a non-experimental and prospective design, a 15-year-old  middle school student participated, who agreed to participate and his mother signed an informed consent. In to a Care Center to addictions, an assessment was made to the user, through a behavioral interview, the Magic Circle and the generation of an integrative sequential table of variables, in order to prepare the corresponding functional analysis. It was found as an origin/maintenance hypothesis that the behavior of drug use (tobacco and marijuana), was highly probable due to the stimulus "curiosity" towards drug use, the lack of cognitive and motor self-control, as well as social instigation (among peers). Thus, the change hypothesis focuses on psychoeducation and assertiveness training. It is concluded that cognitive behavioral therapy has scientifically proven tools for the timely evaluation of variables that threaten the physical and psychological health of adolescents
