Education performs an important role with regard to this phenomenon. To talk about exclusion is to deal with a very important problem that can be found in the politic, social and cultural engagement books; therefore the author wanted in this article to specify its concept, to reveal some of its causes and to analyze its fields and features. There are some circumstances, unfortunately deeply rooted in a historical tradition, that make worse the problem of exclusion, such as gender, age and migration movements; but here only the exclusion risk of immigration in Spain is analyzed. We consider that the proposals for integration have to take into account the recognition of the others, of their diversity, of equality as an inalienable right and the participation of the people directly concerned in all the socio-cultural spheres.Pese a los avances evidentes que en todos los ámbitos se han producido en España, aún persisten bolsas de pobreza y de exclusión cuya erradicación no puede basarse en soluciones parciales, sino que éstas tienen que ser integrales; la educación cumple un papel relevante en relación a este fenómeno. Hablar de la exclusión es hacerlo sobre un problema fundamental que está en las agendas políticas, sociales y culturales; es por ello que en este artículo se precisará su concepto, se desvelan algunas de sus causas y se analizan sus ámbitos y sus características. Existen ciertas circunstancias, lamentablemente muy arraigadas a una densa tradición histórica, que agravan el problema de la exclusión, como son el género, la edad y los movimientos migratorios; aquí se analiza solamente el riesgo de exclusión que tiene la inmigración en España.
