Descripción
Sumario:This paper examines the political and economic opportunities and challenges in China-Latin America relations within a triangular dynamic involving the U.S. Using a Neorealist theoretical framework, it analyzes how Latin American countries maneuver between Chinese economic engagement and long-standing u.s. influence. The study employs comparative analysis and reviews existing literature to explore factors shaping these relationships. Findings indicate that while China’s economic cooperation offers development opportunities for Latin America, it also raises concerns about debt sustainability and political leverage. The intensifying u.s.-China rivalry further complicates Latin American foreign policies, as countries attempt to balance economic benefits from China against historical ties with the U.S. The paper argues that Latin American nations may need capability to adopt a sophisticated strategy to maximize advantages from both powers while maintaining autonomy. It concludes that managing these complex dynamics will be crucial for the future of China-Latin America relations.
