Sumario:Spirulina algae (arthrospira platensis) is a microalgae with blue-green pigments, which belongs to the cyanobacteria phylum. It is considered a highly nutritious food due to its content of macro and micronutrients, which confer benefits on overweight and obese patients, which favor weight loss, appetite and lipid profile, however, its consumption is not common. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to analyze information about the effect of spirulina algae consumption on markers and biomarkers of overweight and obesity. This work was a documentary research, a bibliographic search was carried out in various electronic databases. As a result of this research, based on 5 articles, it was shown that the consumption of 500 mg of spirulina algae for 12 weeks, in humans, has beneficial effects on values that indicate overweight and obesity, such as BMI (p<0.01) , body fat (p=0.049), appetite (p<0.001), concluding that spirulina algae exerts a beneficial effect on the health of overweight or obese patients, reducing the chances of suffering from comorbidities associated with said disease, however It is necessary to continue researching the recommended dosage of this compound.
