| Sumario: | The pension systems have accumulated extraordinary resources in individual accounts. Meanwhile, public finances face severe restrictions due to several liabilities as a result of the pension reforms. Unlike other studies that focus on highligting the demographic transition, here, our main topic is the social security argument based on the macroeconomical analysis of an overlapping generations model. This paper seeks to highlight the existing tie between pension systems, private savings and public savings, both theoretically as empirically.
