Esta investigación fue descriptiva-correlacional, de enfoque cuantitativo y diseño no experimental. Se utilizó la metodología Cross Industry Standard Process for Data Mining (CRISP-DM). Se trabajó con los datos libres facilitados por el Instituto Colombiano para la Evaluación de la Educación (Icfes). El análisis de la información se realizó con WEKA 3.9.6 y RStudio. Los resultados evidenciaron que las personas con desempeño bajo en Matemáticas eran mujeres, mayores de 22 años, adscritas a grupos étnicos, residían en municipios cercanos a Tumaco y sus alrededores, cuyos padres tenían baja escolaridad, no contaban con computadora ni internet en casa. En contraste, los estudiantes con desempeño avanzado eran hombres, menores de 18 años, sin etnia, cuyos padres eran profesionales, habitaban en Pasto y sus alrededores, tenían internet y computadora en casa. Se encontró también alta correlación positiva entre las pruebas de Lectura crítica, Ciencias naturales, Sociales y ciudadanas, y Matemáticas.   Characteristics of students from Nariño in the Saber 11 test according to performance in mathematics   Abstract The objective of this article is to characterize the students of the department of Nariño (Colombia) according to the score achieved in mathematics in the test Saber 11 period 2021-B. This research was descriptive-correlational, with a quantitative approach and non-experimental design. The Cross Industry Standard Process for Data Mining (CRISP-DM) methodology was used. This research worked with free data provided by the Colombian Institute for the Evaluation of the Quality of Education (Icfes). The data analysis was carried out with WEKA 3.9.6 and RStudio. The results showed that people with low performance in Mathematics were women, over 22 years old, affiliated with ethnic groups, they resided in municipalities near Tumaco and its surroundings, had parents with low education, they didn’t have a computer or internet at home. In contrast, students with advanced performance were men, under 18 years old, without ethnicity, their parents worked as professionals, they lived in Pasto and its sorroundings, they had internet and computer at home.
