| Summary: | This thesis presents the design of a microstrip array for the 14 GHz band. This frequency, in the ku-band, is significally used for satellite comunications. The array consists of four antennas in a 2x2 configuration and uses DGS techniques to adjust some parameter values. The array was simulated on HFSS (ANSYS Electronics), with values calculated using MATLAB. The simulations were defined in a way that the structure approached a real one the most, by using 3D blocks and accurate material values. By having a DGS plane, S₁₁ shifts from -31.8302 dB to -37.9741 dB; VSWR attain a value of 0.2194 dB (in contrast to 0.4451 dB for the not degenerate ground plane); whereas the imput impedance goes from almost 50.986 Ω to 49.7038 Ω. The array was fabricated having measure results which the radiation frequency is in the order of 13.4 GHz without DGS and 13.8 GHz with DGS, the band width is improved with this modification and is verified more improvements of parameters values using DGS technique. |
