Sumario:This research develops a theoretical framework constituted to a work of several decades of tracing the painter Ignacio Berben Montano and his work in archives and art galleries. Contribute: With new data from the aforementioned painter. Introduction: Correspondence, usually about everyday life, such as logistics, costs, materials, difficulties, etc. Course objective: To publicize this research as a complement to the historiography of art in Mexico. Specific objective: To get to know from a realible source, some information about the daily life of Ignacio Berben. Results and discussion: As far as we know, the present epistolary would be the first published about a painter from the Mexican viceroyalty and his patrons. Methodology: After the work on archives, photographs were taken, we started with the palaeography, the missives were ordered in chronological order. Conclusion: Point out the importance of publicizing these documents, at the moment unique in their kind in Mexico.
