Description
Summary:This brief survey is intended to provide an historical and technical background against which present-day research on hurricane structure may be viewed. It does not pretend to be exhaustive; indeed it would be nearly impossible to consider all of the papers which treat this subject. First of all, it will be limited to discussion of the mature hurricane, i.e., after development is complete and before transformation to extratropical characteristics or modification over land have begun. Secondly, it will concentrate on the results of the past two decades in which more progress has been made than in the preceding century.
