With this original approach, Cuadriello thinks that different aspects of his work may be better appreciated. The “darkness” that characterizes some of his work is a good example of this. His work shows an anticipation in time, at least among the colonial compass. The “shadowed” features in his work, characteristic he shared with Francisco de Goya, a contemporary to him, represent the presages of the romantic revolution which would later transform the world.Con el estudio de un autorretrato del controvertido arquitecto Francisco Eduardo Tresguerras, Jaime Cuadriello propone una visión romántica de este importante personaje de la cultura mexicana colonial. Los enfoques tradicionales que suelen afiliarlo al neoclasicismo —y aun al barroco— empobrecen sus obras arquitectónicas, plásticas y literarias; en cambio, a través de esta perspectiva, se pueden apreciar los aspectos “oscuros” de una obra que se anticipaba a su tiempo, cuando menos en el mundo hispánico.
