| Sumario: | The study’s objective was to learn how the Mexican public television updated the citizens on the federal election. It was carried out through a content analysis technique; the sample was formed from one constructed week from April, May and June 2018, and included newscasts from Canal 11 (Mexico City), Canal 7 (Jalisco) and Canal 28 (Nuevo Leon). Results show, on one side, that whereas Channel 11 highlighted the campaign in its newscast by featuring it at the beginning and for an ample time portion, regional systems operated in the opposite sense. Nevertheless, it is evident in all three institutions that public media limited their content regarding the presence of sources and did not elaborate nor discuss the candidates’ proposals. Therewith. going against the principle of information diversity. The election as presented by public TV stations denotes little commitment to the very society they rely upon, as they merely broadcasted the campaigns contents, without discussing or reflecting on them. |
