| Sumario: | The purpose of this article is to analyze the importance of domestic and care work for final consumption in families or households, and to examine the main findings of Mexican socio-demographic research on this issue. Initially, we are interested in the conceptual advances and the acknowledgement of this type of work in labor and non-labor statistics. We subsequently explore the results of various studies on aspects such as the quality of the information collected on domestic work and care, the economic value of the activities involved, the amount of time spent on them by various population groups, as well as the relationships established between the performance of paid and unpaid work. Lastly, we discuss the meaning of the advances for future research and public action. |
