| Summary: | This article shows that the theoretical, empirical, and institutional development of the concept of social cohesion has implied a high ambiguity that is manifested in six dilemmas of lack of definition, and in an overlap between this concept with those of community and social capital. From here, and admitting this ambiguity, the objectives of this work are: 1) to locate the defining dimensions of cohesion from the variables used in 54 academic articles, 2) to link the results with the way in which international organizations understand this concept, and 3) to be able to conclude that social cohesion is defined from eight dimensions, which refer to a double equation of objective and subjective belonging to the group, and for which it overlaps with the community and social capital, but which also has a differentiating dimension: inequality. |
