Descripción
Sumario:The main subject of this article is the professional identity of university staff and its purpose is to present the theoretical and empirical elements that have been worked out as a part of a research project about professional ethics at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). The author starts with a description of this project and presents the theoretical elements based on the ideas of authors who have made significant contributions in this field; she then presents the information that has been gathered making use of two kinds of instruments: a scale questionnaire about professional ethics with samples from postgraduate students and academic staff, and open interviews made to the 40 postgraduate studies coordinators of the same institution and to Spanish professors, twice. The conclusions attempt to articulate several central ideas about the theoretical frame and the empirical finds as well.
