Sumario:For the debate, in this work are presented certain arguments around that the use of the Meso-American notion to analyze the contemporary social phenomena that occur in that space to which Paul Kirchoff called Mesoamerica, it can open the analytical perspective. Nevertheless that would be made necessary a re-meaning of such notion. The reflections that are outlined in the article have a preliminary character and they are product of the discussion within Seminar Contemporary Mesoamerica: politic and culture, organized by the Centro de Estudios Latinoamericanos, whose first phase had as starting point the discussion on the relevancy or not of analyzing the Central American, Mexican and Caribbean societies (at least the Spanish-speaking Caribbean) under an integrative look, a Meso-American look.
