Descripción
Sumario:The focus of this study was to analyze the learning of new words, which may be difficult since vocabulary can be very complex at different levels, in foreign or second language teaching and learning. The goal of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of a series of multimedia contents presenting four different glossing conditions, in the learning of vocabulary of students of English as a foreign language. Following a quantitative approach, a longitudinal – prospective study was conducted, with three groups, conformed by 62 university students with mean age 20.90 in the case of women and 20.62 in the case of men, where 42.6% of the sample were women. The experiment showed that multimedia content was useful if the words were not confused with other words. In addition, there were unexpected results specifically in learning words identified as cognates. It is convenient to control the number as well as the type of words used in the vocabulary tests, moreover, to control which are the conditions for the application of the tests in virtual environments is considered essential as well.
