| Sumario: | Banderas Bay has 1 407 km² of continental platform and a maximum depth of 974 fathoms, on the coasts of the state of Nayarit and Jalisco. In it, the present research work related to its fishing activity was carried out, trying to identify the most important fisheries, in the period from January 1, 1996 to January 1, 1997, trying to contribute to the scientific base establishments that allow proposing measures for the development and management of coastal fisheries, for which reason sampling was carried out on the specific composition of the catches landed by the coastal fishermen of 8 communities and of the data obtained from the notices of arrival of the fishing offices. The organisms belonging to the family Lutjanidae represent the main fishery in Banderas Bay, in the first place for Red Snapper because it constitutes 43% of the total production, defining its participation as the target species of capture, since it is undoubtedly a source of strong currency for the region, considered as the daily sustenance for fishermen. Fishing is considered coastal because of the use of smaller fiberglass boats measuring from 21 to 27 feet in length, presenting a total of 442 boats. The fishing production officially recorded during the year of study was 1034584 kilograms, but we can consider as an annual average the amount of 882 832 kilograms. The commercial exploitation is sustained by about 30 species, regardless of the fact that biodiversity consists of about 161 families, with 300 species. |
