Sumario:Toxic heavy-metal contamination of the environment is a significant worldwide phenomenon. The conventional physical and chemical methods for removing heavy metals, such as ion exchange or precipitation, are often ineffective and/or very expensive when used for the reduction of heavy-metal ions at very low concentrations. This article shows the adsorption phenomenon as a viable option in the treatment of wastewater, which is regarded as a polishing treatment, and therefore takes place at the end of systems of conventional treatments.
