| Resumo: | Based on the review of the legal framework and participation of independent candidates in the federal elections of 2015, 2018 and 2021, this paper proposes that the institutional design of independent candidacies in Mexico does not allow true citizen participation or true electoral competition in this way. This causes factors such as the profile and experience of the candidates to become determinant at the time of nomination and electoral participation, especially whether they have political-electoral experience. As a result of the above, candidates who do not have this profile have no real opportunity to compete or even participate, unlike experienced politicians who are nominated this way, thus violating the citizen democratic spirit that gave rise to independent candidacies. |
