Sumario:This work is part of a broader research on peasant struggle and movements in the Dominican Republic. The purpose of this article is to trace the main lines of evolution of the rural masses struggles. In particular, it underscores the diversity of such struggles through tout this century. However, this study emphasizes the period between 1960 and 1990. Because of the central role of the State in Dominican contemporary history, this article underscores the relationships between the peasantry and State power, and power, and how these relationships have affected social struggles in the countryside.
