Descripción
Sumario:This book on "Active Tectonics" is part of the series of "Studies in Geophysics" published by the Geophysical Research Forum of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America. One of the purposes of the series is to deal with geophysical issues related to social problems, in order to assess the state of knowledge and review the needs, priorities, weaknesses, etc., of research programs. Within the series, the last two titles have been: "Explosive Volcanism: Beginning, Evolution and Risks" (1984) and "Subterranean Water Pollution" (1984). The present title of Active Tectonics, prepared by a group of specialists in various disciplines, deals with the spatio-temporal characteristics of tectonic processes, specifically those that can be expected to occur in the near future and whose study presents potential benefits in reducing of risks to our society.
