| Sumario: | The work presents the results of a qualitative exploratory study on discrimination against the elderly of Mayan communities in the municipality of Tulum, Quintana Roo. Some dimensions of the problem are identified, and the results are interpreted and presented for future research. This article provides valuable information about the conditions of double discrimination experienced by older people in the communities under study: discrimination based on age and being indigenous. And it is also worth adding the gender condition: being a Ma-yan woman. In this sense, it is our goal to show that the levels of exclusion, discrimination, lack of recognition and obstacles that Mayan older people face represent a barrier to access to their rights and opportunities to have a dignified and satisfactory life. |
