Descripción
Sumario:The article offers a comparative study of the texts of Francisco De la Maza on Diego Valadés and Enrico Martínez. The study of these per-sonages is complemented following the lines that De la Maza traced in his pioneering studies by reference to the current works dedicated to these important figures of the first century of New Spain. Special emphasis is placed on the importance of the biographical perspective that De la Maza adopts for the adequate interpretation of the historical significance of the work of these hybrid subjects. This interpretation, which is valid for both characters, is that they are agents of Catholic and Iberian globalization. The article concludes with an analysis of two interesting editorial and graphic statements of either character that were missed by De la Maza’s penetrating gaze.
