Description
Summary:From the beginning of the 1990s until the year 2002, there took place in Argentina an intense process of "foreignization" of core businesses in all sectors of the economy. As a result, a loss of density and of economic, social and political weight has occurred for big businesses formed by national capital. The present essay offers a quantitative panorama of "foreignization" in the major company segment and the differences between national and foreign capital in terms of costs of production and financing. Afterwards, we make a systematic and general analysis of the declining trajectory of large firms and local conglomerates and their causes. Finally, some reflections are proposed on the historical significance of the capital "foreignization" phenomenon in Argentina in general, as well as how this process of "foreignization" which took place during the 1990s, can be explained.
