Descripción
Sumario:During the second half of the XVII century Mexico City was pendant of a miracle that occurred in the house of deán Juan de Poblete. By art of her sister Maria, it were reconstructed in a recipient a kind of small breads with the image of Santa Teresa, after being previously molded and dissolved in water another bread. With that they achieved several cures and very soon the fame of María de Poblete went across the frontiers of the capital. She was vowed by the members of the Cathedral chapter, by some notaries and Jesuits and by the archbishop Payo de Ribera himself. The voices of various witnesses that called out the whole matter as a fraud were silenced upon the danger of scandal. The case can be used for reflection over the criteria’s of truth, of miracles and morality of the novohispanic society and about the practices of the laic in baroque times.
